Key Duties:
- Manage all Health & Safety matters in the maintenance team, including but not limited to:
- Ensure that all employees work in a safe and responsible manner and adhere to on site safety regulations and procedures.
- Issuing ‘Permits-to-Work’
- Conducting Risk Assessments on own and team’s work
- Inducting the team in routine health and safety training such as:
- Lock Out / Tag Out, Permits system, PPE compliance, Accident Reporting.
- Carrying out PPE audits of the team.
- Focus on maintaining plant efficiency within the allocated budget.
- Be pro-active in seeking ways to improve plant performance.
- Motivate and lead the maintenance team to achieve their targets.
- Ensure that all employees are aware that the priority is to keep the plant running efficiently.
- Any extra work including special projects must be delegated to others and must not interfere with the day to day plant cover of the core team.
- Completion of PM’S is a fundamental requirement and must be managed and monitored by the Supervisor.
- The Supervisor must be available for on site meetings with Management and offer input to help improve efficiencies.
- Monitor the time and attendance of all employees.
- Deal with IR issues relating to personnel.
- Meet on a fortnightly basis with Management and provide a regular weekly report on the previous week’s activities.
- Ensure that timesheets are filled in correctly and sign them off with the approval of the client Manager.
- Planning & Scheduling of Maintenance works in close co - operation with Production and Commercial Managers.
- Participate in site audits ensuring compliance.
- Program & issue work orders for ppm/other work to Lead Technician.
- Stock (store management), procure spare parts.
- Ensure availability of materials as required.
- Prioritise 'other work' taking in to account manufacturing priorities and PM completion.
- Maintenance support, data entry, updating equipment records, producing performance reports (KPI's).
- Produce back log of planned work scheduled and not completed and reasons why.
- Manage co - ordination between Operations & Maintenance functions.
- Manage progress & compliance to schedules.
- Manage other contractors on site in a maintenance capacity.
- Ensure service contracts are up to date and liaise with external vendors.
- Challenge systems, processes and procedures to drive change within the Maintenance/Operations function.
- Participate in Site Management initiatives, for example, but not limited to, TPM.
- On call as part of Management Team / Engineering Team
- Hands on with Technicians to organise, prioritise, advise, help etc.
Person Specification:
- Trades qualification - Electrical and relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with modern maintenance management methods and techniques.
- Experienced in managing a maintenance team of not less than 5 personnel. With responsibility for Health & Safety (typical tasks as listed above) plus motivating, influencing, coaching the team on day to day technical and operations matters. Proven ability to deal with employee relations / disciplinary matters within the team.
- High speed/High Volume background. Ideally experience in Food or Beverage manufacturing processes
- Multi-skilled / cross-skilled ethos
- Aptitude for process awareness, PLC control equipment and diagnostic / trouble-shooting experience gained in a Hi-volume environment.
- Good team player that can use their initiative and communicate well with people and build work relationships.
- Responsible and positive person who embraces change and takes ownership for their team and plant.
- Computer skills essential
- Familiar with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems, ideally Maximo. Knowledge of JD Edwards also an advantage.
- COSHH awareness in a food safe environment an advantage.
